Simon Marcus Harvey (52-55) died on 2 March 2010, aged 71. A proud and enthusiastic OP, he was in recent times a forthright member of the OP committee.
His father Marcus was at the College from 1922 to 1924, who after a successful career in the MN moved to India to take charge of the Royal Bombay Seamens Society. It was here that Simon was born in 1938 and in 1952 he entered Pangbourne to become one of the first second generation OPs. On leaving, he joined P&O, also becoming a Lt-Cdr RNR. In 1970 he moved to Hong Kong, working for Far East Freight and learning chinese, In 1970 he returned to the UK to set up a successful boat building business, eventually becoming Chairman and MD of the Harvey Eastwood Group, based in Norwich.
He married Mary in 1965 and they had four children, one of whom Jonathan (83-88) became the first third generation OP. In addition, Simon's sister sent her two sons, Giancarlo and Rudolfo Aspasini to Pangbourne in the 1980s. Simon was buried in Clare, Suffolk.
Mark Dumas represented the OP Society at the funeral which was attended by a number of other OPs.
