Thanks to the efforts of Graham Jex, Captain of Boats in 1971 when Pangbourne won the Princess Elizabeth Cup for school eights at Henley Royal Regatta for the second time defeating St. Andrew's School from the United States, the crew is to reform for a ceremonial row over the Henley course on Saturday lunchtime July 2 followed by a dinner at the Leander Club in the evening.
Graham, who lives in Auckland, New Zealand, has located all but one of the winning crew - Peter Gavin, Richard Vangucci, Malcolm Walker, Murray Eldridge, Graham Innes, Duncan Innes and Paul Hickman. Sadly, the missing OP is Nigel Hardingham who has since died but his brother and family will be at the reunion as will coach Peter Politzer.
Several of this crew went on to greater things. Duncan Innes won a gold medal in the World Senior Lightweight Championships in the Great Britain V111. Graham Innes (1968-73) sculled two years running in the World Junior Championships and also became Pangbourne's first rowing blue, competing three times in the Oxford boat and being elected President in 1976.
Graham and his wife are planning to return to the UK in late May and will be in the country for about ten weeks. All OPs who left the College in the 1971/72/73 period are invited to watch the row at Henley and celebrate together afterwards.
