16/10/2011 OPs win annual golf match with the College
Close encounter October 12 at The Berkshire GC goes OPs' way.

OPGS Secretary Charlie Parry (81-85) writes:

"By all accounts everyone enjoyed the afternoon and the course. I have already spoken to the society Secretary at The Berkshire and they are happy to offer us another date for next year!  Date to be confirmed, but will be in early October .

Mark Dumas (64-68) & Kingsley Borrett (51-56) had a great game at the top of the OP order which ebbed and flowed before they lost on the last hole. In the second match Robin Knight (56-61) & Pip Smitham (64-69) gradually drew away from two big-hitting pupils by dint of their greater accuracy and won 3&2.

Giles Fuchs (xx-xx) & Charles Donnelly (78-83) won the third match 1 up on the 18th after a well fought battle. In the next game the formidable OP pairing of Nick Beattie (55-60) & Peter Hughes (51-55) romped home 6&4 to retain their unbeaten record in these contests.

In the next match Richard Given (57-60) & Charles Llewellyn (56-61) won 2 up.  Charles was in blinding form and notched up three birdies.

As the College only fielded nine players due to a clash of dates with the annual Seafarers' Service at St. Paul's cathedral, we mixed up the rest of the field. Richard Parrett (72-80) & Andrew Feary (78-81) for the OPs lost to me and Robert Kirby (the new master-in-charge of golf at the College) by one hole. We were all square after 17 holes before Robert putted in from off the last green for a birdie!

In the last match the OPs' low handicap pairing of William Donaldson (91-96) & James Ash (95-00) lost to George Gale (81-85) and Anthony Clifford  (75-82) who were playing for the College.

The final score was 4-3 to the OPs.  However I got to keep the cup as I presented it to myself !"
