06/05/2009 OP Hurlingham Club Dinner
Hurlingham Club Dinner huge success...

161 OPs met for dinner at the Hurlingham Club in West London on 30th April. All had a very enjoyable evening. If Niall Kilgour (1964-68), our host and the Chief Executive of the Hurlingham had not closed the bar at 0130h the following day, it is most likely that many OPs would still be there!

One of the main focuses of the evening was to thank Lionel Stephens for all he had done for the OPs for more than 30 years as its Hon. Secretary and for editing The Old Pangbournian so competently

Many tributes were paid to Steve. He was obviously delighted with the event and was pleased to see such a good gathering of OPs, many of whom had travelled from as far away as Australia, Canada and the USA.

Robin Knight (1956-61), President of the OP Society, said he had never attended a more successful OP social event in the last 22 years. He went on to say he identified a very positive mood among the OPs present. Many had never attended an OP social event before and without exception he felt everyone was supportive, constructive and were keen to help the College and the Pangbourne Association.

Thomas Garnier, the College’s Headmaster, gave a short and encouraging review of events at the College. He went on to thank the many OPs and the OP Society for their support in the College’s recent Campaign. He finished by inviting OPs and their families to visit Pangbourne.

Niall Kilgour and his team at the Hurlingham looked after us all brilliantly. The food was delicious and the flow of refreshments never ceased!

The evening had a representative from the 1930’s and covered each generation through to the early 2000s.

You might enjoy seeing some of the many happy photographs that are now on the OP web site. (See News – Gallery – OP Dinner)
