The OPGS held its 50th anniversary meeting at Hankley Common GC July 1 in 30 degree heat
About 30 OPs and guests took part in the 50th anniversary meeting of the OP Golf Society at Hankley Common GC on July 1st.
The day proved to be a resounding success. despite 30 degree heat. The 2009 captain of Hankley Common, OP Richard Givan, won the individual award with 38pts in the morning competition. The runner up prize was won by William Donaldson. In the afternoon foursomes, the winners were Pip Smitham & Adrian Stow and the runners-up Charles Llewellyn & Gareth Evans. The longest drive award went to the Captain of Golf at the College, who hit the ball around 320 yards off the 8th tee, while the nearest-the-pin award was won by Chairman of Governors, Michael Allsop.
The day was also notable for the unveiling of the new OPGS flag and for the appearance at lunch of the founder of the OPGS, John Whitmore (a past president of the R&A), and the retiring Hon. Sec. of the OP Society Lionel Stephens.
