Lucy Hamblin-Rooke provides an update
Girls OP Hockey has been in the balance for many years, however, this year we finally organised a date and played a match against the current 1st X1. We managed to drag along a few old faces, from leavers of 2005 through to 2009, of which a few of them probably hadn’t seen their sports kit in about four years, yet tried to play a bit of hockey.
The game resulted in a 6-0 loss, although without Philippa Allen (goalkeeper) making some excellent saves, the score line would have been a lot worst! However, as we had expected, the College girls who train every week and yet again won the Berkshire Cup earlier in the season had the upper hand with bags of skill and fitness!
Our aim is to definitely try and make this an annual occurrence with the College, as it was a great afternoon, with plenty of good humour and more importantly it got the OP’s together to have a good catch up! One idea is to merge the OP hockey and rugby on the same day, which would bring everyone together and hopefully resulting in more OP’s coming along.
I would like to say thank you to all of the OP’s who played and supported and I hope to see you all next year!
