23/06/2010 Evensong Thanksgiving for Trevor Turner
An Evensong in Thanksgiving for the life of Trevor Turner OP (39-43) took place on Tuesday 22 June 2010 in The Chapel at Sutton’s Hospital in Charterhouse, Trevor’s home for the last 18 years.  Each of the Brothers at Charterhouse has a Governor; Trevor felt privileged to have one of the three Royal Governors, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who was represented at the service by Sir Brian McGrath GCVO.

The Evensong was also attended by about fifty Brothers, friends and family, including Trevor’s brother Graham Turner OP (36-39) and his wife Doris, and their son David Turner OP (’69-’74).  The intercessions were led by Reverend Canon Bill Christianson, formerly  Chaplain to The Mission to Seafarers and long-time friend, who produced the Order of Service from Trevor’s papers.  Readings were conducted by Thomas Garnier, Headmaster of Pangbourne College, representing the College and the OP Society, and Brother Stanley Underhill, who for the past eight years sat opposite Trevor at mealtimes.  During the service, the soprano Patricia Rozario OBE gave an exquisite performance of Schubert’s Nacht und Traume, described as Trevor’s favourite piece of music.  The Address was given by the Master of Charterhouse, James Thomson FRCS FRS, who in recounting Trevor’s life described him as a ‘an archetypal Pangbournian… a quintessential English gentleman’ and added the quality of Steadfastness to those others mentioned at Trevor’s funeral: Grace, Truth, Charity, Hope and Faith.  The service ended with the singing of Jerusalem, the Master introducing it by referring to Trevor’s tireless work in support of the Church – to the end “he worked to build Jerusalem in England’s green and pleasant land.”
