80th Round the Island race 2011

OP in winning monohull crew.

Olympic gold medal winner Andrew "Bart" Simpson (90-95) was one of the crew in the TP52 of Team Origin, owned by Sir Keith Mills and helmed by Iain Percy, which came home first in the monohull category in the 80th Round the Island race off the Isle of Wight June 25.

Gusts of up to force seven and waves of 25ft by the Needles soon sorted out the record-breaking fleet of 1,900 boats taking part in the race. The TP52 was also involved in feisty jousting at the start of the race with a monohull helmed by triple Olympic gold medal winner Ben Ainslie, emerging on top. Among the early retirees was round the world sailor Dame Ellen MacArthur.
